Barra de la cruz is a bit of a no mans land destination which is why it’s extremely popular with surfers. If you don’t surf then I wouldn’t reccomend coming here as you’ll probably be bored out of your brains! But the beach is beautiful and it’s a good spot for some down time if you need to accompany someone who does…
Where to stay:
Cabañas de Pepe is the main digs for those wanting to post up in Barra for a while. He has basic Cabañas for 250 pesos (singles for 150) and a restaurant/ping pong table on site. The rooms have fans and a bed (all you need really) and the shared bathrooms are REALLY clean. Pepe speaks english and can help you with anything and everything you need.
Where to eat:
You can’t go past brekky and lunch at Pepe’s. The servings are hearty and the food is fresh and cheap. Though he is only open for brekky and lunch! For dinner I would reccomend one of two places close by. The pizzeria or the Taco/Tyluda place…ask anyone at Pepe’s, they’ll point you in the right direction.
How to get there:
If you don’t have your own vehicle Barra can be a little harder to get to. But don’t let that put you off! Just get yourself to Huatulco…you can either fly in there or get a bus from Puerto Escondido or other Mexican destinations in the South like San Cristobal etc. From Huatulco you can jump in a taxi to barra for around 150 pesos for the car…if you’re on a budget jump in a collectivo…for cheaper.
