What is Hierve el Agua?
Hierve el Agua is an extraordinary place! It’s a set of natural swimming pools and rock formations that resemble a petrified waterfall!
Where is Hierve el Agua?
Hierve el Agua is in the Mexican State of Oaxaca! The site is set about two hours of Oaxaca City. It’s super easy to get to…it just takes a little while!
The cheapest and easiest way to reach Hierve el Agua is to get a collectivo (shared taxi) from Oaxaca City heading to ‘Mitla’ this should cost you 25 MXN pesos. From Mitla there will be larger collectivo’s waiting to take you there. You can’t miss them! These are 50MXN pesos each way.
Alternatively you can take a taxi the entire way or do an organised tour. Although with a tour they only allow you spend 1 hour at the site…and that’s just not enough!
Do I need a guide?
Nope! You can visit Hierve el Agua by yourself. Laze around in the sun, swim in the natural formed rock pools and enjoy the view!
How much is the entrance fee?
The site has a 25MXN pesos entrance fee.
Is it safe to go alone?
For sure! People visit the site everyday so you will never really be alone 🙂
What should I take with me?
If you want to spend the day, take water and a packed lunch. You can buy extra water and snacks at the site…there’s shops everywhere! I particularly enjoyed my ice cold coconut after a long day in the sun!
Why should Hierve el Agua be on my Bucket List?
Have you ever seen a petrified waterfall before? Have you ever lay down on the edge of a natural infinity pool looking over the entire Oaxaca Valley? Yeah, didn’t think so.
