Puerto Escondido is a stop on every surfers Mexican itinerary. Good waves, tasty restaurants and fun nightlife. Life can get a little too comfortable here so be careful not to get stuck in the trap.
Where to stay:
Aqua Luna, hands down. They offer ‘hotel-style’ accommodation at a very reasonable price There is long term rent options, a delicious restaurant and a roof top with perfect views for sunset. Oh! And an awesome pool!
Where to eat:
Puerto Escondido has a plethora of fresh, healthy and delicious options for every meal at any time the day! Here are a few of my favourite options!
Aqua Luna – Aqua luna has amazing ‘hotel-style’ accommodation with a delicious restaurant and bar! They make amazing burritos, fish tacos and nachos all at a super cheap price with very generous servings.
Spirulina – Spirulina does health and they do it well. There are hundreds of smoothies, fresh juices and yummy meals to choose from. All for a very good price!
Ol lita – The taco hot spot. Located just up the road from Spirulina. If you’re looking for a hearty, healthy taco feed this is the place to go.
El Sultun – On the main strip of Zicatella towards the harbour. If you’e keen for a middle eastern feed this is the place to go!
Lychee – The best thai food you’ll find in Mexico. This sandy bottomed restaurant serves up tasty (and big) thai meals every night of the week. Worth a try!
What to do:
If you’re not a surfer then use your time in Puerto Escondido to relax, catch some rays and eat delicious food! There’s plenty of different beaches for you to explore in the Puerto Escondido area, Check out –
Playa Carazaillo –
Easily the prettiest beach in this area. Perfect for a day of laying in the sun and swimming in the crystal clear ocean without the hassle of getting smashed by the waves!
La Punta –
The hippie end of the beach. This sandy street is filled with delicious, healthy restaurants and boutique stores. It is also known for it’s left hand point break which is much easier to handle than the infamous Zicatela.
Head out in Zicatella for a night on the town. Weekends are good for a fiesta at ‘Bar fly” just be wary, the party doesn’t get good until around 1am. Zicatella also has plenty of delicious eating options!
Head up into the centro for the real Puerto. Tasty markets serving up local cuisine and lot’s of op shops to search through for some goodies!
